"how to" distressing shutters

hi there....well this is my VERY F I R S T......drumroll ...... DYI blog post and i hope this helps a lot of readers have a fun lil' "at home project" that can really add a ton of shabbiness without a ton of dough. I recently posted this pic of a grey washed frame with my two shutters on either side to really give the frame a open window look and to use space. Whether you have a large wall that you cant quite figure out how to take up the space .....and maybe don't have budget to do a whole wall gallery, this is a great option. Another fab idea is to put them on either side of a TV openings as well so you don't have that flat screen just floating is space. Ok folks here is goes! ***Sorry i don't have pics of all the steps I didn't know i would be blogging about this but i have had lots of request!Step by step:

What you need:
 2 old or new shutter {I got mine off eBay for $11} They were yellow then painted red so it doesn't matter what color you find

Lowe's Valspar Glaze in color Mocha ($14.97

One can of white cheap spray paint (.97 cents @ Lowes)

One can of dark brown cheap spray paint ($1.97 Lowes)

Two sawtooth Hangers ($1.00)

One old dish rag

Old chip brush

STEP ONE:
Spray paint the shutter with the dark brown spray paint all over {Let dry 1 hour}

STEP TWO:
Spray Paint with White all over (Two coats) {Let dry 2 hours}

STEP 3:
*Dip the old rag in a little water so it is damp(NOT WET) and then just wrap the tip of the towel around a few fingers and dab it in the glaze
*Dab the towel onto old newspaper a few times so its not runny, A LOT goes a LONG way!
*Start wiping side to side on the shutter and all around the edges, wipe it until you feel its has the amount of the glaze color on top of the white that you prefer.
*Next take windex and a paper towel and wipe the whole things down running it down and across to get off excess glaze.
*Then take chip brush and just dab the tip in the glaze and brush it up and down VERY lightly down and across the around the edges. ****Another tip is to take a small art brush and work the glaze into each and every crack and crevasse you can and then wipe down the excess with a damp paper towel. This glaze is great because it allows you to work with it for an hour before it completely dries so have fun!!!
Let me know if anyone out there TRIES it!!

thinking large

ok lately i have been on the large side....not me myself {hopefully} but have been making lots and lots of large Frames. One i did for a vanity mirror in a white wash with wavy trim with gobs of chocolate glazing ,which i love....i really ages it and gives it a super vintage feel. i keep saying I'm going to do my vanity mirror and this really gets me motivated!

UP next was a large cork board in the Nate c h e v r o n pattern! What a perfect way to showcase the kids art work when they are back in school this fall{which is quickly approaching}. This is a 19x25 inner opening but cork comes as wide as 24x36. Email me for more questions about the cork boards. I do install the cork and they come ready to hang! I have this one on etsy here.

C O L O R

wow...it has been a while since a blog post. i swear i have had so many fun groupings on the books and have been dying to share these two large wall galleries that are just full of fun and C O L O R. Two uber sweet customers to boot made these projects extra fun....more to come below....

also in other news my chevron frame finally aired on The Nate Berkus Show May the 9th. I don't think i was quite prepared for all the love and support from all my friends and family. thank you to everyone who watched it live and posted to keep me updated! it was the most exciting day in Delta Girl history and I hope there are more to come. I appreciate every "like", comment, post and view! If you didn't have a chance to see it, i have posted it on youtube here. I actually had to drive down to my sweet moms house in Grenada,MS to see it since it didn't air in Collierville. My great friend Kim made the drive with me ...{thanks kim!} Excuse my mom's proud scream and us "shushing" the kiddos ;)

On to the fun stuff....

{PROJECT #1}

Stairwell for Anna: this is was sweet girl that actually went to the same college as me so i consider a "delta girl". She has lots of oranges and blues and hints of green with white stairwell trims and dark floors. we wanted two use 4 colors and she didn't want any solids so we really explored all the pattern with mixes of a all colors.

{PROJECT #2:}

A Hallway for Keisha: Keisha is a COLOR girl and I LOVE a color girl! I can not even tell you how fabulous her home is. She sent me pics of her home for inspiration and her taste is beyond exciting, so i knew this would be a once in a lifetime project. She is actually going to frame some black and white fabrics, metal and other eclectic objects and use some as photo boxes. She was kind enough to snap this iPhone pic after she received them. i swear i need to make a trip to Cali to see them in real life......i can expense that right????

hope you enjoyed these groupings and i hope they inspiration!cheers!
